01
Decide What You Sell
You pick one service you can deliver with AI by the end of this chapter, so you have a concrete offer to market.
You are reading this because you have a laptop, a few hours a week and a growing sense that your salary is a ceiling. You have heard that people use AI to write, design and code, and you have fiddled with a chatbot yourself, but you have no service to sell and no idea who would buy it. You do not need a product, a brand or a following. You need one offer that a specific person will pay for this month, and you can have that offer by the end of this chapter.
The service you want is the smallest thing you can deliver in under four hours using tools you already have or can get free. It must produce something the buyer can see, like a draft, a list, a design or a plan, and it must solve a task the buyer already pays for. You are not inventing a need. You are taking a job that a business does manually and offering to do it faster with AI. Pick a business type you know something about: a local restaurant, a gym, an estate agent, a plumber, a coach. Name the task that eats their staff time: writing menu descriptions, drafting class timetables, listing properties, quoting jobs, writing session plans. That task is your service.
Work one example through to the end so you can copy the path. Choose a dog walker in your town. You look at their website and see the same three testimonials from 2022, no blog, no social posts. The task they do manually is writing updates for their clients and thinking of new routes. Your service is: write a month of daily client updates and suggest ten new walking routes, using ChatGPT, in under three hours. You charge 150 pounds for that. You can see the deliverable, the buyer can see it, and the time works.
