Inside the guide

9 chapters, and what each one leaves you able to do.

  1. 01

List what you sell before you sell it

You set out the one promise your trial makes and check your product keeps it.

  2. 02

Invite five specific people to start

You hand-pick five likely users and ask each one to begin the trial today.

  3. 03

Time the trial to their calendar

You pick a start date and a deadline that suit each user and your own workload.

  4. 04

Check in at day three with one question

You ask each user what they tried first and fix the obstacle they name.

  5. 05

Show them the moment they hit value

You point each user to the result that proves your product earns its price.

  6. 06

Turn their hesitation into a clear choice

You name the one reason they hesitate and decide whether you can remove it.

  7. 07

Make the payment step take ten seconds

You shorten the checkout to a single click and test it yourself first.

  8. 08

Handle the no with a follow-up offer

You offer the ones who decline a shorter second trial and a reason to return.

  9. 09

Keep the ones who converted from churning

You set a single follow-up for day thirty that asks for a renewal decision.

01

List what you sell before you sell it

You set out the one promise your trial makes and check your product keeps it.

You launch the trial tomorrow and you have not said what it promises. Write it down in one sentence, the single outcome a user gets in thirty days. If you cannot write that sentence, you will market a blur and convert nobody.

Write what you sell before you invite a single person. The sentence names the outcome, not the feature: 'You will send your first invoice in ten minutes' beats 'We handle billing'. Check your product keeps that promise by running the trial yourself . The mistake that costs you most is promising more than you deliver, because every disappointed user tells two friends. Now write the sentence, and act only if it survives your own test.
